What Is an Adverb?

Rule 1: An adverb complements or specifies a verb, an adjective, another adverb, or a whole sentence: it refers to the place, the time, the reason, or the manner. It’s invariable.

Different Types of Adverbs

Rule 2: Adverbs can consist of one word (demain, très, vite…) or groups of words (tout à coup, jusque là…).

Adverb Derivation

Rule 3: Many adverbs are also derived from adjectives with the ending "-ment" (simplement, lentement).
